Senator Jason Allen has sponsored a bill that unionized home help care workers. He got trounced by the grassroots, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, his Republican opponents who are running for U.S. House of Representatives in Michigan’s First District, and the tea party movement.
The Senior Citizens and Veteran Affairs Committee approved a change in language to the bill made by Allen this past Thursday to make sure that the initial bill would not unionize home care workers. Even though Allen defended the bill numerous times, his office issued a press release titled, “Bill provides home help workers safeguards.“ It describes his insertion of language into the bill he sponsored and defended to make sure forced unionization would not happen. So, while this language insertion corrects his bill, it amplifies the fact that he is not a principled conservative.
Last December, Jack McHugh, of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy pointed out:
On Aug. 5, 2009, Sen. Jason Allen, R-Traverse City, introduced Senate Bill 731, which would give statutory cover to a scheme transferring approximately $6.6 million in taxpayer money annually to the SEIU government employee union, one of the parents of ACORN. This is accomplished by creating a shell government “employer” for some 42,000 individuals who are actually hired by elderly or disabled Medicaid recipients to provide personal care services in their homes. A Mackinac Center lawsuit is pending regarding a similar arrangement imposed on home day care providers.
This bill was a hot potato and definitely not something that any conservative would dream of introducing.
The idea that now, after all these months, and his and his wife’s blind interest in becoming my U.S. Congressman, that he finally righted a big whopping wrong puts all of this into sharp perspective.
The Allens prefer to label him a conservative to trick voters into believing he is what he is not.
So, thank you, Jason and Suzanne, for saving us from your liberal ideology. Republicans who are liberal have no place in the United States Congress when we are up against Barack Hussein Obama.
