What If Ron Paul’s Followers Court Occupy Wall Street? | Jen Kuznicki

I have discussed, in the past, the likening of the Ron Paul faction of the Republican Party with the left.

Since Ron Paul refused to say with certainty that he would not seek a third-party run, and we all know he won’t get the Republican nomination, I wonder if he will try to co-opt the Occupy Wall Street movement to show how he can build coalitions between the Democrats and Republicans.

First of all, this report , shows that there is some acceptance amongst the right to try to spearhead a movement for liberty within the movement against capitalism.

Tea Party and libertarian activists from the metropolitan area should visit the site and interact with the protesters — not just in Manhattan, but wherever the OWS movement exists. There is here a real opportunity to counter the left and influence the thinking of some of the protesters through dialogue and peaceful means with those members of OWS with whom civil conversations are possible. There are many more such people there than one would think. If the reader is convinced that the protesters are all crazed, unsavory types, then I ask: where did you get your information? Have you been there yet and spoken with the protesters? I suspect not. If you haven’t been there, then I suggest that you probably got your perception of these people from the MSM. Are you going to let them influence your thinking?

Radical these kids may be, but they can be influenced. Remember that during the Vietnam War, protests leaders of the SDS and the free-speech movement often infiltrated the crowds and incited the protesters into going beyond war protest and into more aggressive positions and tactics, usually involving violence and revolution.

The fact that the OWS movement is backed by the Obama administration, and the fact that most are anti-capitalist should clue the conservative into the focus that OWS represents the SDS idea, not the Republican idea.

Here is the problem with the Ron Paul crowd. As , the hate for capitalists, represented by the Jewish influence or monopoly on banks and media, is front and center with Ron Paul followers, and that link is supported by the OWS crowd. With the mantra of, get rid of the Fed, stop these corporate monsters, and end the capitalist society, all argue for socialism. Without the capitalist, there is no jobs. Check that, without the capitalist, all there will be are jobs in the government.

The news that Ron Paul might consider a run as a third-party candidate is not news to me. Being involved with a campaign for a Republican in my district helped me understand what Ron Paul followers truly support. It is an all-or-nothing mindset. The Ron Paul candidate in my district took some heavy hits early on, and dropped out of the Republican primary. She then supported, very closely, a third party candidate. In the end, that candidate only garnered 3% of the vote, but, when we are considering that this might happen in a nation-wide election, 3% is a lot.

I questioned the Ron Paul candidate about being the catalyst for a Democrat win, and she said, “I respect your fight for your candidate, can’t you respect my cause? Liberty is the goal we are fighting for.” No matter how many times I, and many others, tried to reason with her, she believed that a Democrat who won despite the third party influence, would be better than any Republican who might win the primary. To her, anyone besides her leads us to tyranny, so who cares.

That mindset is widespread within the Ron Paul movement, which brings me to my local Ron Paul follower. I receive his email updates and, accompanying the link to the Real Clear Politics post, “” he commented, “Maybe the Republican Party should think twice about ignoring Dr Paul. Think of the ramifications.”

This attitude shows that the Ron Paul followers believe that the Republican Party is ignoring him. That is not at all correct. We reject him. That is a distinct and clear difference.

Once the Ron Paul campaign feels completely rejected by the Republican Party, and it will happen once we have a few primaries, is it possible that he will renounce the Republican Party, and attempt a third-party run?

I think it is very possible, if not probable. Why else would Ron Paul, in the RCP/Fox News clip, not completely disavow a third-party run? And, given the “ripe for the pickin’s” American Thinker piece, as well as another email I received, “.” Rick Ackerman (or his wife, whatever) declares that OWS protestors truly need to follow Ron Paul.

A poll taken by OWS shows that 64.2% of respondents were younger than 34 years of age. The Ron Paul movement feeds upon college-age adults by simply announcing he is for drug legalization. Bring with that his hate for bankers, (read: Jews) Wall-Street (read: Jews) and corporate greed, not to mention his anti-war, (read: anti-America, ie the empire) screed, and Ron Paul has a good chance of holding the imaginations of a lot of OWS supporters.

Again, the Ron Paul followers see this as “coalition-building.” This is not conservative ideology, it is populist demagoguery. And no matter how many of us try to stop the Paulist illuminated mind of “blowing up” the whole process, they will not bend.

Because I have fought them, because I have tried to reason with them, and because I have tried to understand them, I must lay this fact. The reason Ron Paul will not unequivocally state that he will not go third-party is for two reasons. One, to sharpen and harden his followers into an all-or-nothing mindset, and two, to keep the door open to run third-party. He will need his followers to keep the third-party idea in mind as we move forward.

Paul’s followers are now saying that if the Republican Party does not pick him, that he will go third party, and if they continue to ignore him, then Obama is what they deserve. I have gotten this information in an email, and found it on website,

If Ron Paul ran as Independent one thing is sure (at least I think so) and that is that the Republicans would not defeat Obama. Some may say Ron Paul as spoiler will be used against Ron Paul.. but really will it be? How can it be? Will anyone who was going to vote for Ron Paul say they won’t now because he might run as third party? I think the idea that Ron Paul will take all his votes away from the Republicans will force them to think long and hard about how they handle Ron Paul…….That should strike fear in the hearts of Republicans and we all know they respond to fear.

Paul’s followers believe that he is not getting a fair shake by the Republican Party, which is ludicrous, since he leaves the door open for a third-party run. Why should the Republican Party give him the time of day, if he has no allegiance to the party? And why, might I add, are the numerous local Republican Parties accepting his followers as grassroots? And doesn’t it strike anyone like it has me, that fear is embraced as a tactic to force people to go along with policies they don’t agree with? That is definitely a leftist, authoritative tactic.

Ron Paul will, and perhaps is, , courting the OWS to consolidate a third-party run. The “empire” suggested in the clip is America, and the belief of Paulists that America is trying to conquer and overtake the globe. The Paul camp believes that America is to blame for 9/11, and if we only would keep out of any foreign entanglement, we would be revered around the world. The isolationists of the movement believe they are 100% constitutional in this matter. What the Paulists don’t and won’t understand is that without America’s efforts, foreign wars can and will come home on our soil. Paul attacks Wall Street and the rich in the clip, and bringing our troops home, perfectly playing into the hands of OWS support.

Paul has help from the so-called right from those who would have been against the Constitution, and for the Articles of Confederation. Yet, the fiscal-conservative, social-libertarian doves who make up his movement take his opinion of Constitutionalism as fact.

Something to look for, in my opinion, would be added help from the left to spread the word of Ron Paul. He wants every American base vacated around the globe as quickly as possible, he wants Wall Street to be ostracized, he wants the military cut drastically, and blames the fed, not the current occupant of the White House, for printing money to stay at war. The clip includes rabid leftists like Bill Maher who shower praise on him.

The clip describes him as full of integrity and not a sellout. But if he goes third-party, he will be both.

So Jen, you speak for the republican party and you reject him? Well you do write like an insider looking out without any pricipals except to win. Most of us aren't like you.

The polls show Romney would be getting a majority as republicans will admit he is the probable winner. Even those who don't support him.

But he won't get the presidency, Jen. part of it is that too many of us are sore losers and don't like being ignored. But there is principal here too. You seem to have left out several eleaphants in the room. Romney and the other republican candidates are perpetual war advocates, I can't put it any other way. They will spend us into oblivion while China and India quietly go around the world making friends and build infrastructure at home. Compared to that fact, economic domestic issues are irrelivant. Oh, the domestic expenditures may seem to be relivant. But domestic money is recycled into our economy when it is spent, Foreign expenditures are money down a rathole.

So Bob, read this and apologize. /2011/09/romney-wins-straw-
Ron Paul is screwy with foreign affairs, and will never receive my vote.

There is nothing conservative about perpetual war and Israel can take care of itself. Your line of thinking is so extremist, I can't believe its a mainstream position.
